Project Summary

IMS is a major sub consultant in this project, supporting the Houston Waterworks Team (HWT). The firm is working as Design Engineer for the Northeast Water Purification Plant (NEWPP) Expansion Project for the City of Houston. The NEWPP expansion project consists of expanding the existing plant’s capacity by 320 million gallons per day (mgd) by 2024. The expansion project will be built adjacent to the existing NEWPP and will help the city and the regional water authorities meet water demands; as well as, fulfill requirements by the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District and Fort Bend Subsidence District that restrict groundwater usage in order to comply with subsidence districts rules for conversion from groundwater to surface water intake supply and reduce subsidence. Early-stage construction on the $1.4 billion project began in late 2017.

Our deliverables include detail design within 3-D BIM Models of each building under the Bentley platform using AECOsim and Open Plant Modeler/PID software, and MicroStation. In addition, our scope of work includes development of detail construction drawings, reviewer comment adjunction using BlueBeam Revu™, Skype Pro for project progress meetings, and construction support services.  Design responsibilities include Engineer of Record (EOR) for design of buildings (roof, walls, and foundation), containment areas, pump/lift stations, pavement, slabs, and tank supports/pads; as well as, process mechanical for various pump/lift stations for over two dozen facilities.
